(AsiaGameHub) – YouTube isn’t showing signs of panic amid the competition for creator talent. During a new interview, YouTube CEO Neal Mohan made clear that even when top creators test out other platforms, YouTube still remains the core of their business.
Good to Know
- Neal Mohan shared that he is not worried about Netflix and other rival platforms poaching top creators.
- He noted that major YouTube creators still treat YouTube as their primary home base.
- These remarks were made during The New York Times’ The Interview, which also streams on YouTube.
Mohan Notes Rivals Still Circling YouTube
Mohan framed competitors’ interest as a sign of validation, not a threat. Pointing to podcasts like “The Breakfast Club” and “My Favorite Murder” landing on Netflix, he said it is “flattering” that rivals “see us as the center of culture.”
He took a similar approach when Conan O’Brien was brought up during the conversation. Rather than push back against the move, Mohan said O’Brien is “very funny” and added that his “Team Coco channel performs very strongly on YouTube.”
This calm demeanor carried over to his larger point. Mohan explained that creators may explore deals with other platforms, but YouTube remains the space they keep returning to. According to him, when he speaks with well-known YouTube creators, they tell him that “no matter what other ventures they pursue, they understand that YouTube is their home.”
He also shared that he has not seen any major creators fully cut their ties with the platform. “I have not come across any YouTube creators who have completely pulled all their content off YouTube,” Mohan said.
He went even further with this point. When creators negotiate with rival platforms, he noted that those companies eventually “acquiesce to what our YouTubers already know is the right long-term decision for them: never leaving their home.”
